At Our Lady of Refuge, our athletic program help motivate students to experience the benefits of team unity, the value of a competitive spirit and the thrill of individual and team accomplishments.
In the book of Philippians the Lord tells us, "I can do everything through him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13). This passage inspires us to develop our student's minds, bodies and spirit.
Sports & Extra-Curricular Activities
The philosophy of the athletic program at Our Lady Refuge is no different than the mission of our school, with that being to nurture the whole child. Ensuring that our students remain active throughout the day is a part of our curriculum.
Our Lady of Refuge offers a unique approach to physical education by having students move and stay active in a variety of ways including sports, isometric exercises, yoga, active-stretching and dance. During these formative years, it is important to provide a wide-range of activities for students to try out and find what they are interested in. From there we can foster that growth in their programs of interest by providing coaching and the ability to compete in extra-curricular activities against other schools.
Competition, Sportsmanship & Camaraderie
Our Lady of Refuge also has a rich-history of athletic success competing in the Catholic Youth Organization's Southern Region Southeast Conference. Within this conference, Our Lady of Refuge competes in extra-curricular activities such as basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball and track & field. Our students have won praise from their peers in competition and have filled our hallway trophy case with awards and honors.
While a dose of active competition is an important part of athletics, we pride our athletic program on developing good sportsmanship skills and self-confidence that the students can take with them through all parts of their lives.
